Scroll 13 — Scroll Blank
This is a scroll blank I am working on.
I’m not overly pleased with this design, although I do like how the gold border around the vine work made the design pop.
Scroll 14 — Scroll Blank
This was my first attempt at doing a scroll with a ribbon curling around the bar. I got a fairly decent handle on the technique but I’d like to get the ribbon to flow better and curl more around the bar next time.
This blank ended up being used for a Barony of White Waters Award of the Opsrey. Lady Isabel of Kenniston did the calligraphy and painted a beautiful oprey badge. Unfortunately the calligraphy and embellishment were done at court right before the award was given out so I was unable to get a copy of the completed scroll.
Scroll 15 — Barony Scroll — Award of the Acanthus Leaf
This was another attempt at freehand drawing Acanthus leaves. I do feel it’s better than my first attempt. The tracing of the leaves in previous scrolls did give me a feel for how they are done. While better, the acanthus leaves on this scroll are too linear and narrow.
This scroll was done for the Barony of White Waters. It was an Award of the Acanthus Leaf. It doesn’t show up in the scan very well, but I think I was getting a better handle on doing my white work with the 0000 brush.
Scroll 16 — Barony Scroll — Order of the Iris
This was a scroll done for the Barony of White Waters. It was for an Order of the Iris. I was pretty pleased with this scroll design. The Acanthus leaves were still a little too linear and narrow but they were better than my last attempt.
Unfortunately, I am not at all happy on how my calligraphy turned out on this scroll and I really need to work on lining much better. I thought I had plenty of room for the text on this but it soon became apparent that I was going to run out. The calligraphy ended up getting too bunched up.
